How to Clean Delicate Silver Jewelry

You will need:

A high quality silver cleaning liquid
A high quality silver duster
A glass of water
Hand soap
A soft cloth for drying

For the liquid and the silver duster i highly recommend the brand Hagerty. It is the brand that is used to clean the finest and most delicate silver jewelry and I've had a great experience using it. I'll be using Hagerty to clean my delicate Tiffany necklace.

This is how the silver necklace looks before the cleaning. As you can see it has some tarnish around the top and the writing is tarnished.

Dip the jewelry in the solution for 1 minute

First we're going to dip the tarnished silver in the cleaning solution. This will remove the tarnish and give the necklace a nice glow and shine.The Hagerty silver clean container has a little basket that you can easily move up to delicately place your jewelry on it.

You then lower the basket gently back into the liquid and let the silver sit in the solution for about 1 minute. Depending on how dark the tarnish is you may have to leave it for a little bit longer. You can easily lift up the basket and verify if you need to leave it a few more seconds. This liquid acts very fast to remove the tarnish so you shouldn't have to leave the silver in for too long.

After 1 minute you can lift up the basket and remove the necklace.

Wash off the cleaning liquid

The next step is to dip the silver in a glass of water (previously prepared) to remove most of the solution and stop the action of the liquid.

You then remove the necklace from the water and wash it with hand soap to ensure that all the solution has been removed.

Rinse thoroughly with water and gently dry with a soft cloth.

Protect and polish the silver

The necklace is now shiny and looks almost brand new! Using the silver duster you can now polish the silver.

By using the inner cloth of the silver duster first, you can delicately polish the silver and protect it against tarnish. This cloth contains a long lasting, patented tarnish preventive agent. This will prevent your jewelry from tarnishing in the future.

With the outer cloth of the duster, you can buff your silver to a beautiful shine.

In order to keep your Tiffany or delicate silver jewelry for years to come, you should polish it regularly with the silver duster as explained above. Only dip your jewelry once a year to remove the tarnish. Also remember to wear your jewelry! The worst thing you can do is to let your silver jewelry sit in a box. By wearing the jewelry you are preventing it from tarnishing!
